Diamonds in Denim, page 101

The cast on number is for the Diamonds in Denim afghan on pages 101-102 of Easy Afghans for Knitters is 173 sts.

 This is a case where the 6 st garter edge (both sides) should have been written separately from the diamond st pattern interior.  The Diamond st pattern should have been written showing a (multiple of 20 sts + 1).

So 12 (two 6-st garter edges) + 8x20 (Diamond st repeat) + 1 (balancing st) = 173. QED. Ideally, the Diamond St pattern would have also been charted.

Row 34: K6, [p1, k1] 4 times, p5, *k1, [p1, k1] 7 times, p5; rep from *6 times, [k1, p1] 4 times, k6.
